This Victorian era necklace is known as a 'book' chain and has been manufactured from sterling silver during the second half of the 19th century. A popular type of jewellery in the Victorian period these were often complimented with a locket or fob with the assistance of a bolt ring clasp. This particular chain which is delicately engraved features a large bolt ring style clasp which can be worn to the centre front as seen in one of the modelled images to attach a fob or locket with ease. We have depicted a large sterling silver Victorian locket on the chain as an example, however this locket is not included with this necklace and is a separate listing. These book chains have been making a come back in recent years and this is a particularly nice example which is longer than many seen for purchase.
