An Austrian glass conch shell by Bohemian glass maker, Loetz in the pink ground with mimosa decor, circa 1890. The shell and snail form vases were among the most popular of Loetz's designs and are showcases of the highest quality craftsmanship they produced. While there are many documented examples in varying shapes and colours this series of zoomorphic designs share the characteristic of being a bridge between the end of 19th-century trends and the burgeoning development of Jugendstil glassworks. The piece has a ground snapped pontil to the underside which assists in authenticating the piece. Very few pieces of Loetz are signed, however this example is undoubtedly by the great glass manufacturer with several similar examples seen on the market. A true collectors item and in very fine condition for a piece manufactured 130 years ago.

Measures - 12.7cm H x 19cm L x 9.5cm D

Total weight of piece - 425 grams
