Chinese Yuan Dynasty Cizhou Temple Vase

A Chinese Yuan Dynasty Cizhouware vase, believed to be used in a temple. This piece features a foliate rimmed zun beaker form, with a baluster body on top of a conical foot. With a typical contrasting colour scheme of Cizhou ware, the body is decorated with a floral motif.

Whilst Cizhou ware dates back to the late Tang Dynasty, the style grew to become most popular and associated with Northern China during the Song and Yuan Dynasty. This piece features later calligraphy from the Ming Dynasty, applied on top of the glaze. The main body does have a chip and some cracking resulting from its discovery in a dig.
